07 Jan Susan’s Sound Advice #100
Perfectionism is rooted in the desire to be accepted. It creates anxiety and makes each day stressful. Perfectionists run from one project to another, always looking for the applause and acceptance they need like a drug. Usually they have trouble creating close relationships. When you are never satisfied with yourself, you can never rest. The sad thing is that, in the end, the lives of perfectionists are run by other people–people who may approve of them if they are perfect enough. The cycle never ends. Today, give yourself a break. Stop the cycle by focusing on what’s important in life. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being perfectly imperfect! After all, would you rather eat an apple that is shiny and perfect on the outside but rotten on the inside, or the one that is a little discolored and bumpy, but sweet and juicy on the inside?
