Yesterday I received an email through my website link. In part, here is what it read: “Everywhere I go, all I see are happy people, and I think to myself, ‘what’s wrong with me? Why can’t I be like them?'”…. I felt so bad for this person because looking at others and thinking they are happier and more successful will only derail their spirit more. Let me say this: I have some very well-known clients. Obviously, I can’t mention who they are, but if you knew, you would be shocked to know that these people deal with depression, major anxiety, low self-esteem and so on. NO ONE has it all. Just because it appears on the surface that people are smiling, that doesn’t mean they have it better than you. Never put anyone on a pedestal. It is a complete waste of time and energy. Getting emotionally healthy is a struggle and it takes a lot of hard work. Smiling is part of that exercise. Try smiling even though you are sad. Faking it will get the same positive results. When you smile, your brain is aware of the activity and actually keeps track of it. The more you smile, the more effective you are at breaking the brain’s natural tendency to think negatively. If you smile often enough, you end up rewiring your brain to make positive patterns more often than it does negative ones. #susankorwin
