13 Jan Susan’s Sound Advice #106
I come from a long line of negative thinkers and worriers. I guess you can say it’s in my genes. For many years, I used this as an excuse whenever I would ruminate about “what if’s” and worst case scenarios. Then I realized that having a predisposition to a certain behavior is not a terminal disease. It CAN be overcome. Yes, like me, some of you may be genetically wired to act a certain way, but, just realize that you still can break the chain with discipline and practice. It’s all a matter of being aware of your thoughts and reactions. Like any bad habit, you must retrain yourself. Keep a journal and write down every time you have a worry or negative thought. Then write down the worst case scenario next to your “worry”. After a while, you will realize that you are repeating the same worries and thoughts and that they never actually were as bad as you imagined.
