Susan’s Sound Advice #1108

Today I met someone with an interesting story, and one that is all too common. This woman’s features are perfect. Her nose is the perfect shape, her chin and jawline are stellar, and she has not one wrinkle. As we were talking, she told me that when she was young, she had a huge nose and a chin that jutted out too far. She was called ugly throughout her school years and vowed to get her nose and chin fixed as soon as she could. What she asked me was this: “If I fixed the things that bothered me, why am I still so sad all the time”. “Why do I still see myself as ugly?”. Why? Because she never properly dealt with the issues from her childhood. Our childhood has a huge impact on our adulthood. The scars never heal. But, with proper therapy and self-talk, we can begin to erase those scars. Just putting a “band-aid” on a wound that needs stitches won’t work. That is what she did. She thought if she erased her big nose and big chin, life would be amazing. Doesn’t work that way. What if you put a whole new facade on a house but the inside has no stability? That house is going to crumble. Fix your inside before you spend money on your outside. You will never find true happiness until you do. #susankorwin
