How many of us have days that we think we are beautiful and days we think we are ugly? I can guess that it’s most everyone! That’s because we think that perfection is what is beautiful. Nothing this side of heaven is perfect. In fact, there is amazing beauty in IMPERFECTION. Just look at nature…clouds, mountains, streams, leaves…the uniqueness of their imperfections make them beautiful. Unrealistic expectations of perfection will always end in depression and sometimes worse. We all need to embrace the concept of nature and apply it to ourselves. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder, and if we have self-hatred to begin with, we are kind of doomed to see ourselves less physically attractive than others see us. Listen to this: If we were shown a bunch of people who were grouped together according to the size of their noses, thighs, tummies and rear ends and asked where we fit in, we would probably get it wrong. Not only do we not see ourselves the way others do, we don’t even see ourselves the way a mirror does. “I’m ugly” we tell ourselves, but just as the thinnest person sees themselves as fat when they aren’t, many of us think we are ugly when we are not. That’s why so many get plastic surgery to change their appearance when the problem is not with their body but with their body image! This is a serious and widespread issue in today’s society. We must stop focusing on our physical beauty and start focusing what is within us. By being kind to others, finding hobbies that bring out our talents, and staying grateful for what we have, we eventually gain enough self-esteem to love and know who we truly are…flaws and all. Beauty is not only about how you look. It is the reflection of your heart on your face. So, keep your heart happy and beautiful and you will always remain beautiful to yourself and to others! #susankorwin
