14 Dec Susan’s Sound Advice #1154
Summer: The beach, the sea breeze, dining al fresco, and longer days. Then, before we blink our eyes, winter arrives, and for many, this marks the beginning of an endless wait until the first bluebird appears or the smallest flower peeks out of the softening ground. To me, though, winter is not without its beauty. On a sunless day, the grays merge to form a solemn and peaceful landscape. Even though the trees may be missing leaves, their beauty is still intact. Winter brings back loads of precious childhood memories packed with hours of sledding and coming home red-faced to a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows. There is a privacy about winter which no other season gives you. Only in winter can you enjoy longer, quieter stretches of belonging to yourself. Yes, there is beauty in every season, but winter asks that we learn to let go…to acknowledge the beauty of sparseness. #susankorwin
