Susan’s Sound Advice #146

Part of my training for Life Coaching was listening to CD’s of positive self talk affirmations. Each CD used repetitive sentences, such as “you are doing great”, “be proud of today’s accomplishments”. When I listened to them, I usually was busy doing something else, but the words were always in the background. Our minds work in amazing ways. Even though the tapes were playing and I was doing something else, my subconscious portion of the brain soaked it in. What I am trying to say here is that by repeating positive words to yourself all day, either by listening to tapes or just saying them over and over, your mind will soak it in without you even realizing it. To put it simply, we must claim our dreams and believe that we are on the way to achieving them. We need to feed our minds with constant thoughts of “I can do it”. Studies have shown that affirmations do work in helping us become more positive and achieving what we want. Athletes use them all the time before a big game. It’s a winning strategy for them and it can be for you too. Repeat words of encouragement to yourself as often as you can. Don’t stop. Positive thoughts will eventually overtake the negative ones because our brain soaks in our dominant thoughts.
