Susan’s Sound Advice #152

There are so many factors that cause stress in our lives. Between the troubled economy, natural disasters, and just plain every day living, chronic stress becomes out of control. Stress can be a good thing in certain situations, but if it becomes a way of life, it can take a terrible toll on your body. Some common side effects of stress are constant fatigue, insomnia, and muscle aches. We can’t avoid the situations that cause stress, but we can do things to help alleviate it. Two of these things is taking time out every day to exercise and also to sit in a quiet environment for a short time with your eyes closed. While sitting, hold your index finger to close one nostril and breathe in for 10 seconds. Remove your finger and place it on the other nostril while you exhale for 10 seconds. This process is proven to lower your blood pressure. Exercise, either by dancing, running or even walking, has a powerful effect on lowering stress. Listen to some uplifting music and it’s virtually impossible to think stressful thoughts. You may be saying that your life is too busy to find the time to do this, but, believe me, if you really try, you will! After all, your health and your happiness are worth it!
