In his new book, the actor, Rob Lowe, talks about growing up in Malibu with his single mom and two brothers with very little money and very few luxuries. His friends, however, were privileged. One day, he was invited to a party thrown by one of the girls he knew. His mom didn’t have the money to buy him a fancy suit, or even a decent belt. He ended up wearing a camera strap as a belt! Fortunatelyfor him, he was very self-confident and walked into the party with the swagger of James Bond. He had a crowd of girls asking where he got the “cool belt”. When it comes to confidence, reality is not important. Fake confidence, or “faking it till you make it”, most often overrides the real turmoil going on inside you. People will pick up signals from body language, expressions, eye contact, posture, etc. It doesn’t matter if you are wearing a paper bag…if you project self-confidence, you will be the star in any room you enter.
