Pay it forward! There are very few feelings that surpass that of knowing you’ve helped someonewhether it’s through a financial donation, a mentoring program or giving up your seat on a crowded bus. It feels good, and it is, in fact, good for you!Research has found that the effect of giving, it doesn’t matter how small or big, is similar to the so?called runner’s high (the gush of endorphins). But, unlike exercise euphoria, this feeling lasts a longer time. Here’s the evidence: 90% of people who regularly give to others rate their health condition a better grade than those who don’t. Helping others helps you. It strengthens your immune system, boosts positive emotions, decreases pain, and provides stress relief. Separate studies show that charitable heart attack patients recover faster than those who aren’t, and those who do volunteer work have death rates 60 percent lower than those who don’t. It’s a win-win situation!
