Susan’s Sound Advice #256

Perfectionists expect to be top-notch at everything they do. It’s great to have high standards, but when it leads to self-criticism, it becomes a vicious cycle. Perfectionists are constantly worried about meeting their own unrealistic expectations and are constantly discouraged when they feel that they are not perfect. Once in a while, when they do allow themselves to feel satisfied, it usually doesn’t last. “I could have done better” is a common phrase from the perfectionist’s inner critic. Today, try to celebrate what you did well or “good enough”. After all, it’s better to be a diamond with a flaw, then a pebble without one. 2011 Susan Korwin
