23 Sep Susan’s Sound Advice #352
Last night I was stunned and honored to receive this award from a young man who I greatly admire, John Shumate. Five years ago, he had a dream to publish a magazine. It was just a dream, but he knew that if he worked hard and kept his eye on his goal, he would eventually see his dream materialize. Well, last night he celebrated his magazine’s 5 year anniversary, and many were there to celebrate with him. During the event, I was touched by a beautiful introduction speech by Jeanett Nunez Coppola, who then presented me with this award. In life, we all want and need to feel valued for who we are and recognized for our contributions and accomplishments. It’s important for us to know that we have made a difference. This award boosted my spirit, my passion and my purpose.
I say this often, and I will say it again: Show someone that you care by thanking them often. Whether it’s the doorman at your building, the server at your restaurant or the person who pumps your gas. Three billion people on the face of the earth go to bed hungry every night, but four billion people go to bed every night hungry for a simple word of encouragement and recognition.
