Susan’s Sound Advice #357

I look at people who inspire me, Joel Osteen, Wayne Dyer, and Tony Robbins, and I am always in awe how comfortable they are speaking in front of thousands of people. When I was asked to be a guest speaker at an event, I wondered if I too could pull it off. My knees were shaking, but I knew that, as much as these men appear at ease, they too probably wonder whether their speeches will go off withouta hitch. I did it anyway and was so proud of myself for facing my fear! How many of us, for fear of not being perfect, just “sit out” when it comes to pursuing our hopes and dreams? Woody Allen once said, “80% of success is just showing up”. Do you think that someone with a great body just sits back and hopes to have the perfect body? No, they “show up” to the gym every day and try their best to achieve it. I never became a concert pianist, but yet I still sit down every day and play the piano because I enjoy it. No one, and I mean no one, is perfect. If everyone sat back and didn’t pursue success for fear of not being perfect, there would be no museums, no theater and no books to read! What makes a winner is someone who repetitively sticks with the game. In addition, when I pick the people I want in my life, I do not look for perfection…I look for the ones who “show up”!!
