Susan’s Sound Advice #454

We all want to be “plugged in” to what’s going on in the world via the news and the internet. But…if you think about it, most of it is negative. I used to be a news junkie, moving from CNN to Fox News to MSNBC. Most of what I heard was arguing and name calling, end of the world scenarios, and murder and chaos. Recently I limited my exposure and for me this was a huge step in the right direction. Receiving negative stimuli from the bad news, toxic people and aimlessly surfing the internet can be a big contributor to feeling stuck in life. The data, trends, numbers and news are often useless because so much of it is biased and conflicting. If you really want to get unstuck, you’ve got to un-plug from the negativity that you’re receiving. It only makes you cynical about everything and everyone and hinders your growth and development. I am not saying to be clueless about what is going on in the world…it’s important to know the current events, but only in moderation…And, I am not saying to hide your head in the sand. But, what I have discovered personally is that by surrounding myself with the right people, reading interesting and inspiring material, just having fun, listening to great music, dancing…. has put me in a such a great mood! Remember this: Opening your mind to positive thoughts and people in a world that is uncertain allows you to feel encouraged instead of discouraged. We are all the same: We are all trying to get through this roller coaster ride called “life”, and if there are people who can smile through these challenging times, then so can we! Worrying about an uncertain future is a waste. Use that time to create a fulfilling present!
