25 Feb Susan’s Sound Advice #468
While switching channels last night, I happened to come across TMZ. The entire show is about finding humor in bashing the looks and actions of celebrities. Many people have become brainwashed by the culture of TMZ, reality shows and tabloid magazines. Blindly following these examples only feeds you toxic examples of the wrong behavior and skewed values. Try filling your time with meaningful and positive examples. I have written before about how we are most like the 5 people we spend the most time with, and the same holds true for what we fill our minds with. Watching these shows consistently and worrying about whether we can ever look or dress the way a real “housewife” does only serves to take away our own power. Don’t look to the media as your guide to how you should act, dress, speak, etc. Be YOU…. whether you don’t have a huge house, a fancy car, or expensive clothes. What really counts is who you are kind to and what positive steps you have made toward reaching your goals. Don’t put people on a pedestal just because they are on television. Follow the best examples, and sometimes those examples are your friends and family and your inner voice. #kindnessisbeautiful #beyourself #don ‘tbeafollower
