Susan’s Sound Advice #496

There are many things we struggle with in life, but the most difficult one is the ability to forgive. The dictionary defines forgiveness as “the intentional and voluntary process by which a victim undergoes a change in feelings and attitude regarding an offense, lets go of negative emotions such as revenge, with an increased ability to wish the offender well”. Now, don’t get me wrong. forgiveness isnot about condoning the behavior, forgetting that it ever happened, giving the other person a “free pass” and becoming best friends again. It’s really about allowing yourself to go on with your life and not “drink the poison hoping the other person will die”. But first you have to make that choice! Choosing forgiveness means making the life-changing decision to not allow any past hurts to control your present happiness any longer. As Elizabeth Kenny said, “he who angers you, controls you”, and in order to set yourself free, you must be willing to release the negativity of the past pain and focus on creating a better present and future. So, today, escape from the prison that your anger and resentment have jailed you in. In reality, you always had the key. Now it’s time to set yourself free. #forgive #releaseyourself #nomorepoison #moveon
