Susan’s Sound Advice #498

Lately, many people have asked me about my skincare regimen. Since I am over a certain age, it is assumed that I have either had Botox or some other artificial means to ward off wrinkles. The answer is NO. I eat healthy, wear plenty of moisturizer, AND, most important…. I stay out of the sun! Have you ever seen billboards advertising sunbathing that showed a pale, perky 18-year-old girl on one side (before) and a weathered wrinkled 65-year-old woman on the other? Of course not! But, that’s exactly how a sun worshipper’s appearance can age. I have seen women and men who actually look like their leather sofas! So, before you are tempted by the sunkissed goddess looking at you from that magazine, realize that they are probably wearing a bronzer. Also, think ahead to what you may have to look forward to. If you want your skin to be weathered, lined and leathery, keep laying out there in the sun. There’s a reason our great grandmothers tried to avoid the sun and wore hats. They were trying to keep their skin soft and youthful. A little sun is healthy, but too much is harmful.
