People who hang out with those with low moral character usually either take on those traits or they are basically saying it’s ok to be a person of low moral character. I know this from experience because I have met many people who have the same personality traits as those with whom they keep regular company. The lesson: When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. Don’t make excuses for their dishonesty, not keeping their word, their lack of remorse, or their lack of ethical behavior. My expression has always been, “if you don’t want to get dirty, don’t swim in muddy waters”. But…today Judge Judy actually worded a different analogy: ” A moldy blueberry will gradually infect the entire container of fresh blueberries. So…hang with decent people. Otherwise, you will be tainted and it’s not a pretty thing”….
