I wrote a post last night about a client who needed “closure” before she could move past a toxic relationship. Today I needed to expand more on this subject. We were not born to be a life-long doormat for deadbeats, naysayers, dream-crushers, energy vampires, users, abusers, liars and backstabbers. Some of these people enter our lives as smooth, helpful, and complimentary, slowly gaining our trust. Others will make you feel that no one else would want you, planting a seed of doubt in your mind so they can control you. Forget about being a good person in this situation. Be good to yourself first. You cannot save everyone. Some people are going to destroy themselves (and you along with them), no matter how much you try to help them. Their lives are full of emptiness and dysfunction, and they will bring their misery and pain into your life with full-force if you allow it. Some give an outward appearance of success and maturity. They are the ones who, instead of destroying themselves, survive by destroying others by conning and using them. . The intimate space of your personal life should be reserved for amazing, honest people. Successful people carefully manage their energy and interactions. They are the gatekeepers of their life, and realize that who they allow into this valuable space is the most important decision they will ever make. So…in a nutshell…. limit your exposure to toxic people. Love yourself enough to say “enough” to people who chip away at your chances for a beautiful life. Find people who live a life with values you admire, and limit your exposure to unhealthy and unsupportive people. If you have to go it alone for a while until you find that person or group, so be it. Being alone is much better than being around negative people out of loneliness or desperation. #dailyinspiraton #susankorwin #lifecoach #author #simplestridestowardpositi vechange
