Susan’s Sound Advice #761

I am hearing more and more about people being treated in a rude and inconsiderate manner. It seems to be an epidemic. What I know is this: When someone acts that way toward me, it does not ruin my day. That is because I know that rudeness from another person isn’t a projection of me, it’s a projection of that person. They are like dump trucks with no landfill: They need to dump their trash somewhere so they dump it on innocent people. It’s easy to blame ourselves when dealing with a rude person: “He beeped his horn at me because I must be a bad driver”, or “they deleted me from Facebook because I must have done something to insult them”. Who cares! What caused this person to be rude most likely has a deeper, more personal cause than what meets the eye. As the saying goes “Rudeness is the weak person’s imitation of strength. ” If someone is inconsiderate to you, let it go and realize that you have no control over other people’s actions. But, you DO have control over your own actions. So, continue to be a good person and treat others with respect, even if you don’t particularly like them. #beconsiderate
