Susan’s Sound Advice #834

Last night I overheard a conversation between two people sitting next to me at a fashion event. One of them was angry about being “unfriended” on FB by someone and couldn’t understand why. I decided to write this post for all those, including me, who have been “deleted” from the cyberspace life of someone without knowing why. Our “Facebook Family” is great. It enriches our life by expanding our social networks way beyond people we would ordinarily meet in “real life”. On the other hand, just as it can make us happy, it can also bring us down, and here is why: Once in a while, as you scroll the newsfeed, you may notice that a person who you used to see is no longer there. You decide to “search” for the person and see “add as friend” (unless you are blocked), and then your stomach tightens. It is rarely a mutual agreement when a Facebook relationship ends. One person just decides, for whatever reason, to call the “friendship” off. Maybe they thought your status was about them. maybe they took offense at your political views, etc. Or maybe they had an argument with your good friend and decided to “unfriend” anyone involved with them. The bottom line is this: At the end of the day, what truly matters is authentic interaction with people, virtually or otherwise. Forget about the number of people in your friends list. Unless you’ve been thoughtless in your words and actions, don’t worry. Life is about expressing yourself, and if, for whatever reason, people choose to move on, so be it. Some will, some won’t, so what, someone else is waiting!!! #SWSWSWSW #qualitynotquantity #realife #susankorwin
