Susan’s Sound Advice #895

Even though both my parents are deceased, I have tried to keep in touch with some of their elderly friends who I had the pleasure of spending lots of time with when my parents were alive. I heard that one of them was in a rehab center recovering from a stroke, so the other day, I stopped by on my way home to pay a visit. He was sleeping when I arrived, so I asked the attending nurse if there wereany patients who rarely get visitors. She told me yes, and walked me to the room of a 93 year old woman. I spent about 30 minutes with her, and our conversation lifted me up as well as her! When I walked out, the nurse asked if she could take my picture because she liked my hair color and wanted to show it to her colorist. I also gave her my card in case she needed anything from me in the future. Yesterday, I received an email with my photo and these words, , …”. Dear Susan,
It’s rare to meet someone with a mind that is just as beautiful as their face. Thank you so much for your kindness the other day. You have no idea how much you lifted the spirits of our dear patients with your smile and words.
I can’t wait to be a redhead!”
I will treasure this email. Impacting someone’s life in a positive way is THE most important quality I strive to maintain. It’s more important than ambition and success. No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it for anyone else. #susankorwin
