Susan’s Sound Advice #904

Our minds can drive us crazy, and they lie to us on a constant basis. They tell us how terrible things are and how things are just going to get worse. They tell us to be afraid of taking a risk. They tell us we are ugly, stupid, and worthless. They tell us that something is terribly wrong when our kids don’t return our phone calls or answer our texts. But, once we finally decide to ignore those negative messages, when we stop them in their tracks and stand up to them like the bully they are, we gain the power to see life in a realistic way and not as a horror movie. We forget about how scared we were and realize that things are ok. Every single day starts with the unknown. It takes hard work to have the attitude that no matter what happens, we are going to survive. It takes hard work to see the goodness in ourselves and not focus on our flaws. It takes hard work to stop expecting tragedy. Rather than spending all our time planning for a worst case scenario, why not plan for the best and do a little preparation for realistic problems? How can we ever really live a happy life if the number one thing on our mind is fear and worry? Our minds are our universe. They can make our lives a heaven or a hell.
