A wide range of studies have shown that stress and anxiety can speed-up the aging process by shortening the length of each DNA strand…people who are severely stressed have shorter telomeres the outermost part of the chromosome that gets shorter as we grow older. While short-term stress, such as the kind of heart-racing, sweaty palm anxiety you may experience before giving a big speech (I haveexperienced this), has been linked to health benefits such as boosting immunity. But, long-term stress has been pegged as a culprit in everything from weight gain to heart troubles and to hair loss. Chronic anxiety sufferers can be pretty miserable. The most common symptoms include feelings of panic and fear, insomnia, cold/sweaty hands and feet, shortness of breath, dry mouth, muscle tension, repetitive thoughts, nausea and an absolute inability to calm down. Most of these symptoms are caused by an unchecked “flight or flight” response. This normal reaction “for emergency use only”, should be temporary…a response to a real danger, i. e. , getting mugged, getting caught in a riptide, etc. But, for the chronically anxious person, this response remains locked in the “on” position, making life a living hell. The good news is that you can undo the damage by creating new lifestyle changes, one step at a time. In my book, I offer tons of advice on how to change your inner dialogue, which has a lot to do with how we see our “world”. I have received numerous emails, letters and phone calls from those who have turned their lives around…You can do it too! Read my reviews on Amazon. com. #susankorwin
